UX INTERNSHIP.
I was able to participate in a Global Internship Program that was remote due to the pandemic. I got the opportunity to work for a start-up based out of Australia while working with a web developer out of Sri Lanka. This was a the most influential part of my degree. Along with working under my boss, I took a class that allowed me to learn more about myself and intercultural competence.
lntercultural competence is the ability to function effectively across cultures, to think and act appropriately, and to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds – at home or abroad.
My short story
This assignment was a self-reflection based on Ted Talk: The Danger of a Single Story. Chimamanda Adichie, a novelist, discusses the value of hearing more than one story about cultures from oneself. Adichie discusses how writers can distort the perception of cultures in their literary works.

In my short story, I discussed how others view me when I interact with people from different nations. The way I am projected onto others can is difficult to assess. This reflection helped to clarify how I interact with those above and below me.

completed wireframes for EB360
I worked for a small start up based out of Australia. Because of how small the company was, I was able to be hand ons with live projects. My role was a UX designer and researcher. I worked on several small projects for new aspects of the website. I designed both the mobile and web frames.
While working at Eventbuzz360, I had the opportunity to learn how to successfully communicate my ideas and receive immediate, constructive feedback. When designing the personas for the site, we focused on the design being minimalist as the main focus of the site was the content the users were uploading. Along with creating simplistic designs, we were redesigning the flows of the user.

While in the research and design phase, I had to ensure the designs and content were original. Although I may take inspiration from similar sites, each design should be new and fresh.

A new site has a lot of small things that go under the radar. By stepping back and looking at the site as a new designer, I was able to fine tune the small things and incorporate these issues in my design.

Once the frames were done, I researched how to move from the design and prototype into React code. I was able to find a free service to assist my developers, Anima. By finding this product we were able to cut down on the amount of time it takes to write new code.

I left the internship with a reignited ambition of the UX field. I learned a lot more than just technical skills. I learned how to build a relationship in a more professional setting.
